Phil McNulty has been BBC Sport's Chief Football Writer since 2000, covering five World Cups and five European Championships, as well as numerous finals in domestic and European competitions such as the Champions League, Europe League and the FA Cup.

He was born in Liverpool and attended De La Salle, the same school as former England captain Wayne Rooney and actor David Morrissey among other alumni. He also regards himself as a full international footballer having played for the national media against the senior Wales side at Cardiff Arms Park in the mid-90s.

Phil covered Everton and Liverpool for both local and national newspapers before joining BBC Sport, where he also reports regularly for BBC Radio 5 Live and Radio 4's flagship morning programme "Today". He has previously been named as one of the UK's top 50 sports journalists in a poll by the British media industry's trade magazine Press Gazette.

He focuses on the Premier League, Champions League and England for BBC Sport but also reports on major domestic and international football issues.

Phil is married to Lynne, has two children and lives in Oxford.
