Pádraig Kenny is an Irish writer who hails from Newbridge in County Kildare. He started his career writing radio drama. As an arts journalist he has contributed work to the Irish Times, the Sunday Tribune, the Sunday Independent, the Irish Examiner, and several other publications.

His debut novel Tin was published in 2018 by Chicken House Books and was Waterstones Children’s Book of the Month. It was nominated for the CILIP Carnegie Medal and the Northern Ireland Book Awards. Tin has also been shortlisted for several other awards including the Irish Book Awards, the Great Reads Award, the Redbridge Children’s Book Award, The Wirral Children’s Book Award, and the Children’s Books Ireland Awards in 2019.

His second novel Pog was published in April 2019 and was Independent Booksellers’ Children’s Book of the Month. His third novel The Monsters of Rookhaven was published by Pan Macmillan in 2020 and was Waterstones Children’s Book of the Month. This was followed by the sequel The Shadows of Rookhaven in 2021. Both books won the Honour Award for Fiction in the KPMG Children’s Books Ireland Awards. The Monsters of Rookhaven was also a White Raven recipient in 2021 and was chosen as one of New York Public Library’s best children’s books in 2021.

His Frankenstein inspired book Stitch was published in 2024 by Walker Books and was nominated for several awards. This was followed by After in 2025. Both Stitch and After have been nominated for the UKLA Book Awards.

His next novel The Edge of the Wild will be published in March 2027. Pádraig’s work has been translated into over a dozen languages, and he has been a CILIP Carnegie Medal nominee on three occasions.
