Tristan Gooley is an author and natural navigator. He set up his natural navigation school in 2008 and is the author of the award-winning The Natural Navigator (2010), The Natural Explorer (2012) and Sunday Times bestselling The Walker's Guide to Outdoor Clues & Signs (2014), three of the world’s only books covering natural navigation. In 2016 the New York Times Bestseller How To Read Water was published, followed by Wild Signs & Star Paths (titled The Nature Instinct in the United States) in 2018 and The Secret World of Weather in 2021.

Tristan is the only living person to have both flown solo and sailed singlehanded across the Atlantic and is a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Navigation and the Royal Geographical Society. He is Vice Chairman of the UK's largest independent travel company, Trailfinders.

Tristan has appeared on TV and radio programmes in the UK and internationally, including The Today Programme, BBC Stargazing Live and The One Show. He has written for the Sunday Times, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, the BBC and many magazines.

Tristan’s books have been translated into 19 different languages and his podcast, The Pursuit of Outdoor Clues, is out now on all platforms. His most recent book is How To Read a Tree, which has spent multiple weeks on the Sunday Times Top 10 Bestseller Chart.
