HELEN CHANDLER-WILDE

Agent: Sarah Williams

Helen Chandler-Wilde is a news and features journalist at The Telegraph, where she writes stories about the real people behind the headlines. She covers a range of topics, from celebrity interviews to in-depth stories about housing in the UK.

She studied economics and languages at university, before a master’s degree in journalism.

On New Year’s Eve of 2018, she lost almost everything she owned in a fire at a storage unit. Fortunately no-one died in the fire, but hundreds of people lost their belongings, including wedding dresses, prized furniture, and items for businesses that were crucial to make ends meet.

Her first book follows the effects the fire has had on her life, using memoir and science to understand why we fill our homes with stuff, and what it’s like to start from scratch with nothing. It will be published in spring 2024.

Helen lives in south London, and in her free time she likes to read, cook and rummage through charity shops.
