Richard Gizbert created and hosts The Listening Post, a media analysis program on Al Jazeera’s English language news networks, Al Jazeera English and Al Jazeera America.
Mr Gizbert has thirty-five years of experience in journalism and analysing the mass media. He spent eleven years as a London-based correspondent for ABC News.
Since 2006, and the advent of The Listening Post, Mr Gizbert and his team have been covering the coverage of news. Recurring themes include: the relationship between new digital media forms and the mainstream news media; the social media component of the Arab Spring; Assange and Wikileaks; Snowden and the NSA; the Obama Administration’s ongoing war on American whistle blowers; the soft power pushes from Moscow and Beijing, as Russia and China seek to use their media outlets to push their own political and geo-political narratives; and the phone hacking scandal at Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation.
Aaron Barnhart, TV writer for the Kansas City Star, wrote that The Listening Post "might be the best media-critique program in English anywhere." Stewart Purvis, former editor-in-chief and CEO of Britain's ITN, said "The Listening Post has delivered," and that its real value "is the breadth of its monitoring beyond the mainstream".
