Omar Al-Khayatt is a Neurologist working in Cambridge who wants to add his name to the list of physician novelists. He was born in Iraq and moved to England before a lot of the trouble started.
He holds no humanities degree and spoke in a made up language until the age of 5, but has not let that hold back his writing aspirations. He has written mainly short stories, getting shortlisted in Writers' Forum Magazine, winning Editor's Choice on Scriggler.com and recently being published as a winner in the Fish Short Story Prize.
Under the tutelage of Maggie Gee, OBE, he graduated from Faber Academy in 2015 and is currently writing his first novel about a father returning to Iraq to search for his estranged son in the tumultuous years of the end of the Hussein era and the rise of fundamentalism, which will be completed in 2019.
