NICK MAES

Agent: Sarah Williams

Nick began his career working in theatre before moving into fashion and producing collections for designers including Alexander McQueen. After a stint producing TV documentaries he made the jump to writing, travel journalism and broadcasting.

Since then he’s ringed the world in search of a good story – going to any lengths to find them. Recent near-death experiences include escaping a lynch mob in Jaipur; surviving a hit and run in Hanoi and dodging crocodiles after falling from a boat at the source of the Nile. This gives the erroneous impression he shares genes with Action Man. Not so.

When not on the road Nick is to be found on the south coast writing fiction. He is the author of two critically acclaimed novels, Not Dark Yet and The Africa Bar both published by Headline Review, and has co-written several travel books. With wide-ranging and eclectic interests, Nick regularly writes for the national press, including the Guardian, Times, Daily Mail, Telegraph and Intelligent Traveller Magazine.

Recent radio includes: “Polar Bear Kebabs”, “Living with Chico Mendes” and “The Priest of Para” for the World Service and programmes for Radio 4 including a homage to The Who: “Happy Birthday Tommy Walker”.
